Rocio Naval (also Maria Rocio Mercedes Naval) is a Filipino-German visual artist, curator, researcher, and community organiser based in Amsterdam. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in European Art History from the Ruprecht-Karls Universität Heidelberg with a minor in English Literature, and is currently completing a Research Master’s in Art and Performance at the Universiteit van Amsterdam, where her artistic and research practice centres queer and decolonial themes spanning collaborative workshops, performances, and autoethnographic essay writing. Rocio is an active member of balik/bayan NL, a group of Filipinos in the diaspora united by the goal of critically exploring Filipino history and heritage, as well as engaging with the interconnectedness of current issues in the Philippines and the Netherlands. She speaks English, German, Spanish, and Tagalog, and is currently learning Dutch and Catalan.
